What it is
Qualitative-research methodology, adapted to long-form executive elicitation.
The maieutic method is the working name for the practice this studio deploys across coaching, consulting, and substrate-construction engagements. It rests on three pillars: qualitative-research methodology adapted from anthropology and oral history; rigorous interviewing mechanics borrowed from investigative-interviewing science (the rapport-based, repeated, never-coercive school); and Socratic midwifery— the maieutic stance Socrates named in the Theaetetus.
Maieutiké is the Greek word for midwifery. Socrates’ mother was a midwife. He said he was too. His care was for souls in labor — and the proof of the work was whether what they brought forth was already theirs to bring.
That posture, plus the rigor of qualitative research, plus the mechanics of investigative interviewing — held in long-form, repeated sessions with the operator at the center — is the method.

Qualitative-research methodology

Investigative-interviewing science
The rapport-based, repeated, never-coercive school. Lineage: the Mendez Principles; Brimbal & Meissner (2021) on rapport → trust → reduced resistance → disclosure. Rigorous mechanics for surfacing tacit material without distortion.

Socratic midwifery
The maieutic stance. Socrates’ Phaenarete in the Theaetetus(150b–c). Not deliver the insight — hold the conditions under which what’s already in the operator can come through.
Where the method deploys
Same method. Three subjects.
The maieutic method runs unchanged across three engagement architectures. The subject of the elicitation changes; the discipline does not.
A note on lineage
The term maieuticis ancient. The method as practiced here is the studio’s synthesis of three disciplinary traditions, deployed against a contemporary question: what survives the AI commoditization of the codifiable.What survives is the substrate — the tacit, contextual, lived knowledge that AI can scaffold but cannot originate. The maieutic method is how that substrate is surfaced, articulated, and made portable.
